MAKE A PLAY LEARNING DAY

4 classes learn 4 scenes during the day and make props for an end of the day show.

Putting on a play at school or in any environment often becomes a big event. Who is going to play the main role? What if I don't remember my lines? What will my friends/parents think?

Our Make a Play day is not about any of this. In just one day - in fact in one lesson the pupils learn their scene. There is no time for fear - they just do it. This gives an immense amount of freedom and inspiration. Also our teacher has no idea who would be best for a role and chose randomly. This means any one can be chosen and pupils who may not usually be comfortable or seen as performers become ones. They may not perform the role exactly as expected but do it in their own way and add their own touch to it which is always a joy to see.

What you will be left with are confident learners, not afraid to have a go and we promise a fun, action packed show that the whole family can come and share in.

ASSEMBLY

Our Make a Play day starts with an assembly which introduces the staff and the pupils to the days. This need only be about 15 minutes.  The purpose of it is to check that the staff know exactly what they will be required to do when not working with our teacher and for the pupils to be introduced to the story and characters.

CLASSES

The play is split into 4 scenes so the classes need to be in 4 groups. Class size needs to be  a maximum of 35 (please let us know if you need more) If you have very small groups it may be worth considering joining them together so they make 2 groups and learn two scenes each- a challenge but double the fun for them. If you only have 3 groups again one class can do two scenes.

After the assembly our teacher will work with the first group on the first scene.  The other three groups go back to the classroom with their class teacher and start making the props and scenery as described in our teaching pack. These are very simple and not compulsory. These do require paper, card, scissors, string and glue which we do not supply. They then come to the hall to work with our teacher at the allotted time.

timings

Usually you will find that you can fit in the Assembly and three lessons in the morning and one more lesson and the show in the afternoon. These lessons can be from 45 minutes to an hour and allow about 30 minutes for the show.

THE BUNGAROO in action

The Show

We very much recommend inviting parents and any classes not taking part to watch the show as of course it works best with an audience!

Our teacher acts as the narrator which helps cement the whole play together and of course acts as a cue for the pupils. Our main tip for the class teachers is to enjoy the process as although it sometimes seems an impossible task for our teacher to make the show happen it always works  brilliantly and any slight mistakes or changes that happen can be taken in our stride and actually often add to the fun!

Prices are from £140 - £310 plus VAT

£2.20 per pupil if 140 pupils participating in a full day

Don't take our word for it

HOW CAN IT BE DONE IN ONE DAY?

The shows are so well planned, choreographed and scripted that the pupils can learn the scene in as little as one lesson of 50 minutes. We have found that by attaching movements to the words spoken by them or read by our director/ narrator the pupils can remember an amazing amount - add a sense of fun and imagination and it becomes even more effective. A show that you would expect to take weeks to rehearse can be done in a day. It also allows for great spontaneity and freedom as pupils don't have time to see any obstacles to them performing. There is no time for nerves or it becoming too big a deal as before they know it they are on stage performing. Often those pupils who you would never expect too achieve results and will put on a performance they and you will remember for the rest of their time at the school.

"The children enjoyed the day thoroughly. The information pack that was sent beforehand was very useful as staff knew what was happening and what they needed to do. Mark was brilliant with the children; he directed them carefully and encouraged them along the way. The performance at the end of the day was very successful. The Yr 5’s enjoyed performing the show and the rest of the Upper School enjoyed watching it. Thank you very much for doing such a brilliant job!"
